I have been using Ear Trainer for a while but was becoming frustrated with the fixed lesson format. It would not let me configure the intervals I needed practice on. This app lets me configure everything! The other big item I was looking for was melody playback. This app plays a melody then lets you repeat it on an instrument of your choice. It listens through the mike and shows you what you played. This is the next best thing to having a teacher work with you. A unique feature is the ability to add notes before or after an interval. This makes identification harder than you might think. It is a great building block for melody playback. You can also play the second note in the interval on your instrument or an onscreen keyboard. This really helps me to find the correct range on my piano. If you are using an instrument with a smaller range, you can set it to accept the answer in any range. This has everything I need to work on all aspects of my ear training. I love it! I hope they use the ability to hear the instrument to make a sight reading trainer as well!

I tried many apps but i think this is the best ear training app in the store. Highly recommended.

To be able to use my own instrument...and a bass guitar at that...makes this a 5 star to me personally easily.

You need good teachers when learning to play an instrument, this is one of them. Intervals and simple melodies were coming to me within minutes, finally a musical ear :) The mic feature makes this app now a part of my daily piano and guitar practice routine. ++

This is the ear training app so far for me, the only improvement that needs to be done Is having a listening mode.

I used to say that I would never spend more than 10 bucks with an app, but after trying the lite version I had to get this one. I love it, good job.

This is great training program that allows lots of variety on how you want to set up your lessons. However, its only good for intervals and melodic dictation. It would be five stars if it also had harmonic and chord training lessons.

Works well

this app does a great job leading you up to dictation. the sound samples are good and it has a dazzling array of wonderful features like the piano controller for answering interval questions. the only thing that could be improved is the interface - enlarging the replay button and some other adjustments would be icing on the cake. overall this is the best melodic ear trainer on the app store by far.

If you guys add a harmonic dictation (see the ch!ear app) and rhythmic dictation mode (see the read rhythm app) this will be the best music trainer of all time. Its already the best melodic and interval trainer on itunes. An option to visually use a guitar neck instead of a piano would be great (but still the nice piano sounds).

I read sheet music, but I also pick up tunes by hearing, I thought I had good ears so I thought this training would be easy. Well, I was wrong, Im not that great at hearing...But that is exactly the point, to get you to find out where you are in need of improvement. In that respect it is doing its job well. The interface is nice and simple and the lessons a separated by difficulty so it lets you get ready for the next level. All in all a very interesting app and I hope my ears get better with it.

I am learning Indian classical music which is largely based on listening. Since I dont have an ear for music, this app has everything I need to train myself. Being able to use a real instrument to answer is a great feature to help me connect with my instrument. Great app. Thanks!

I play violin and this app has been a great acquisition since you need a good ear to play violin. It has really helped me improve amazingly. Really recommend it.

Really nice eartraining app, best Ive used on iPad. If they add harmonic and rhythmic dictation, it will be perfect.

I have been playing music since grade school and this is the most helpful learning aid I have ever used.

I wish the app was better designed. So many little things are problematic. Seriously you guys are using pops? That really kills the flow of the training. One thing is pretty annoying eg. in the pitch trainer is when you get s pitch wrong, it doesnt replay the original pitch..so I forget what it was! So lame.

It has everything you need. Period.
